We are a NO KILL rescue and do not condone the use of euthanasia for any reason other than in the instance of terminal illness. We feel that it is absolutely necessary that everyone who visits this site and is associated with our organization is aware of this fact. Please do your homework when dealing with rescues and sanctuaries. If they do not state this boldly up front as we have, we highly suggest that you ask, if this is a concern of of yours. It is something that we care deeply about and in our research, we have found that this policy can be buried deeply in paper work. So, when dealing with other organizations, please be sure to ask about their particular policies if it is not specifically spelled out.

We realize that those who invest in a bird have probably spent a lot of money to purchase the bird, adequate housing and accessories. The initial desire for some of these people is to get back a return on that investment. Before you place that advertisement, please consider this. Your bird may end up paying for your mistake by being caught in a cycle of continuous instability, abuse and neglect—either physically or mentally. Birds require a great deal of time, patience and understanding. They are extremely intelligent beings, who without attention and social interaction, can and often do develop psychological problems such as feather plucking and self-mutilation. Once these behaviors have started they cannot always be reversed.

Feathered Friends Sanctuary is a non profit organization committed to provide a safe haven including proper veterinary care, nutrition, socialization, physical & mental stimulation, and clean, spacious living areas. Space is not only provided in our home, but in our hearts.

Parrots have become increasingly popular as pets in recent years, and too many of the people who are drawn to their beauty are unaware of the challenges of keeping an animal only a generation or two removed from the wild. Birds are messy, and some can be very loud. Unless purchased from a reputable breeder or bird shop that understands the importance of good health and socialization and proper handling after purchase, problems such as biting can pop up, and few bird owners know enough about normal bird behavior to cope. Birds are also given up when a bird owner marries, or when children arrive, or sometimes just because the owner tires of the work involved in keeping such a high-maintenance pet. Then, too, the long lives of parrots can leave them vulnerable – with life spans measured in decades, some birds outlive their owners. For all these reasons and many more, too many parrots end up going from home to home before ending up in a place like the Fine Feathered Friends Sanctuary, Inc, if they’re lucky, or facing euthanasia if they’re not. Few community shelters and humane groups are equipped to handle birds, which makes parrot sanctuaries even more important.

We work solely on private donations and adoption fees and all donations and contributions are 100% tax-deductible, always needed and welcome. If you have a bird you can no longer care for please contact us.

- We do not breed or place birds with people who breed.
- We do not sell, trade, or use birds in our care for commerce or profit.
- We promote responsible guardianship of all captive birds.
- We promote education on all issues of avian welfare.
- We oppose the sale of un-weaned baby birds and production breeding methods.
- We oppose the mass-marketing and selling of birds through pet store chains, bird marts, and internet venues.
- We maintain that all captive breeding contributes to the displacement and suffering of captive birds and, with very few exceptions, does not contribute to the viable preservation of the species.
- We do not condone, endorse, or promote the breeding of birds for life in captivity as long as there are captive birds in need of placement.
- We support and encourage responsible legislation protecting the rights, health, and safety of birds living in captivity.
- We strongly oppose legal/illegal exportation/importation and encourage all countries to adopt legislation, enforcement, and conservation policies to prevent wild birds from entering captivity.
