Adoption Information and Polices

1. FFFS will accept birds donated to our organization.  We do not purchase birds, even to remove them from bad situations.

2. FFFS does not breed birds or place any birds into breeding situations.

3. FFFS adopts birds to adults, never to children.

4. A FFFS volunteer will perform an in-home visit PRIOR to your application being approved.

5.  Because in-home visits are a required part of the adoption process, anyone wishing to adopt a bird from FFFS must live within driving distance of an authorized FFFS volunteer.

6.  We do not ship birds.  Any person wishing to adopt a bird from FFFS is responsible for the transportation involved throughout the adoption process.

7.  All potential adopters are required to interview with a member of FFFS' adoption committee prior to being approved for adoption.

8. Approved adoption applications will be placed on a waiting list, if a bird is not currently available, for a bird that would be a good match for the approved adopter.

9.  ALL birds will have an Adoption Donation which will be determined by FFFS.  There are NO exceptions to the adoption fee, as it is our primary source of taking in money needed to support our organization.

10.  All adoptions will go through a probationary period.  This time period will be determined by FFFS.  Final adoption papers will be signed if all conditions for the care of the bird are met and it is determined by FFFS that it is in the best interest of the bird to stay in the prospective home.

11.  FFFS reserves the right to stop the adoption process AT ANY POINT if it is determined that it is not in the bird's best interest to be adopted to you.

12.  Anyone interested in adopting a bird from FFFS MUST read and sign a copy of our adoption policies and fill out an adoption application.

13. Only one parrot acquisition/adoption per home is allowed in a 12 month period, for most bird species.

14. Adopted birds are to remain in the home and be treated as a family member.

15. Adopted birds may not be sold, given away, bred or used for any type of monetary gain.

16. Potential adopters will be required to spend hands on time with the species of their choice under the supervision of one of our volunteers before being approved.

17.  Anyone wishing to adopt a bird who resides in rented property MUST provide written permission from his/her landlord to adopt a bird PRIOR to the application being approved.  As a general rule we do not place Conures, Macaws, Cockatoos, or other noisy birds in apartments or condominiums.

18. FFFS will not adopt birds as companions to other birds.

19.FFFS does not place birds into aviary situations, with the exception of finches.

20. Birds must remain in a 100% smoke-free environment.

*We appreciate your interest and support in Fine Feathered Friends Sanctuary.  We know that we are asking a lot from you but we believe that adopting a parrot is the beginning of a life long commitment and that it must not be taken lightly.  Thank you for your interest in sharing your home and your life with a previously unwanted bird.
