Charlie

Meet Charlie, one of our beloved Blue and Gold Macaws. Charlie arrived as a stray to the sanctuary several years ago. He was found in a tree in a residential area, frightened, and unable to be rescued until he succumbed to hunger and fell.

Charlie was extremely anxious and terrified of people when he initially arrived. He has come a very long way in his time with us, and is even comfortable leaving his cage to stand on his door or on a perch. For some, he can be transferred with a perch to other areas.

Charlie almost always befriends the macaws on other side of his cage. Even when rotating cages around the room, he still gets excited to chat with whoever is near him. He seems to be most fond of other Blue and Gold Macaws.

He is still unsure of people, and is unlikely to step onto an arm or hand. When prompted, he typically will fly off of his cage or run away. He will need an owner who is very patient and willing to wait until he is ready to be handled.
